India–Sri Lanka Naval bond grows stronger as INS Sharda concludes key Colombo visit
INS Sharda departed Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Saturday following a successful port call that further strengthened maritime cooperation and friendship between India and Sri Lanka.
The visit featured a range of professional exchanges, training sessions, and sporting engagements with the Sri Lankan Navy, aimed at enhancing interoperability and fostering closer ties between the two maritime forces.
As part of capacity-building initiatives, Sri Lankan Navy personnel participated in training on small arms handling, basic firefighting, first aid, and rescue procedures.
During the visit, Rear Admiral Jagath Kumara, Commander of the Western Naval Area of the Sri Lanka Navy, boarded INS Sharda and interacted with the crew, reaffirming the strong maritime partnership between the two nations.
Friendly sporting fixtures, professional interactions, and cross-deck visits further deepened mutual understanding and strengthened bonds between the two navies.
The Commanding Officer of INS Sharda also paid a courtesy call on Shri Santosh Jha, the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, during the port call.
The visit underscored the enduring maritime partnership between India and Sri Lanka and reaffirmed their shared commitment to regional maritime cooperation and security in line with the vision of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions).
