Ahmedabad, Nov 22 (IBNS); The Gujarat government on Wednesday said it will not allow the release of filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's latest movie Padmavati in the state.

Announcing the decision, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said his government could not allow distortion of history.

"The Government of Gujarat will not allow #Padmavati - a movie hurting sentiments of Rajputs - to get released in the State. We can’t allow our history to be distorted. We believe in freedom of speech & expression but any foul play with our great culture is not tolerated," he tweeted.

The movie was scheduled to release on Dec 1.

Amid protests, makers have delayed the release of the movie in the country.

The new date of the release of the movie has not been announced so far.

The movie features Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in the lead roles.
