First arrest in case of men who filmed, posted rape videos on WhatsApp
New Delhi, Mar 25 (IBNS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested a man from Odisha, who was wanted for raping a woman and posting the video on WhatsApp, reports said.
The man, Subrata Sahu, a builder from Bhubaneswar, has been brought to Delhi.
He was among a group of men being searched for after activist Sunitha Krishnan began the "Shame the Rapist" campaign a few weeks ago.
It was because of the activist's campaign the government came to know that videos of rapes were being circulated by a group of men who had not been identified or arrested.
According to reports, the men posed happily for cellphone cameras.
Sahu raped his receptionist in 2010 and allegedly circulated the video on WhatsApp a year later, the CBI court said on Wednesday.
Krishnan is a rape survivor who runs an NGO in Hyderabad.
Following her campaign, the Supreme Court acted suo moto, or of its own accord, took notice of her campaign, and ordered the CBI to investigate the case.
