Firing at police: Four more arrested

Kolkata, Apr 19 (IBNS): The Kolkata Police have arrested four more persons on Sunday in connection with the Girish Park shooting incident in Kolkata which left one policeman injured on Saturday.

According to reports, all the four accused persons, who were identified as Kisore Paswan, Shib Kumar Routh, Manoj Mali and Iftikar Alam, were trying to escape to a neighbouring state when the police arrested them from Babughat bus terminus area in the city.

Police officials said all the arrested persons were involved directly in the shooting incident.

A sub-inspector of Girish Park Police Station, Jagannath Mondal, was injured when bullets were fired at the force when he was leading to intervene in an altercation between the workers of Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Congress near Sinhipark School in north Kolkata's Girish Park area on Saturday.

Police arrested two TMC workers- Deepak Singh (Papai) and Ashok Shah- earlier from the spot on Saturday evening.

They were produced to the Banksal court on Sunday and the judge sent them to police custody till Apr 24.

Jagannath Mondal is undergoing treatment in a hospital.

Police said the four accused persons, who were arrested on Sunday, will be produced in the Banksal court on Monday.
