Failed lover affairs driving farmers to commit suicide: Agriculture Minister

New Delhi, Jul 24 (IBNS) Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh has claimed that farmers are committing suicides due to failed love affairs, reports said.

His remark that is set to trigger a big controversy, comes at a time when hundreds of farmers caught in debt trap are committing suicide.

He said  failed love affairs is one of the several other reasons due to which farmers are committing suicides.

The Agriculture Minister listed the reasons for suicide in a reply to Rajya Sabha quoting  national crime research bureau records in his reply.

His reply drew angry reactions from opposition parties.

Janata Dal United (JDU) MP KC Tyagi is planning to move a privilege motion against him.
