Excessive force used in valley, deal differently with militants and their families : Mehbooba asks police

Srinagar, Dec 14 (IBNS) : Stating the "excessive force" was used during the past five months of unrest, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minsiter Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday ordered police to differentiate between militants ad their families.

"In the past five months  excessive force was used by security forces on the people of the valley and i don't deny that. But normalcy has started prevailing and I hope police will cooperate and change its behavior while dealing with people. Its time now to differentiate between militants and their families," she said.

Mufti was addressing a passing out parade of commandos at the  Commandos Training Center (CTC) at  Lethpora in Pulwama

Mehbooba's remarks came a day after state Government sanctioned ex-gratia relief for the brother of slain Hizb commander Burhan Wani.

Mehbooba said once the peace prevailed permanently,  she would restrict the use of  "tough laws" like AFSPA and PSA.

"I want to use PSA against criminals and smugglers only, and not against elderly men and youth," she added.
