Eight Arakan militants with huge cache of arms-ammu caught from Indo-Myanmar border

Guwahati, Dec 10 (IBNS) : Security forces apprehended eight militants belonging to Arakan Liberation Army (ALA) of Myanmar along with a cache of sophisticated weapons from Mizoram-Myanmar border area on Saturday morning, officials said.

According to the reports, Mizoram police and Assam Rifles had jointly launched operation at Tuithumnar area in Lwangthlai district along Mizoram-Myanmar border and caught the militants.

A top police official said that, the ALA militants were caught when they trying to enter India.

Security personnel had recovered one Lathode grenade launcher, one 7.62mm assault rifle, one 5.56mm M-16 rifle, one M-11 assault rifle, one G-3 rifle, ten Lathode grenades, two Chinese-made hand grenades, large rounds of ammunition and magazines in possession from them.



The nabbed militants were identified as Khaing Thi Zaw, Khaing Myo, Khaing Ray Min, Khaing Ming, Khaing min Htoo, Khaing Raing, Khaing Myo Naing and Khaing Zaw.

Arakan Liberation Army is active in both Rakhine and Karen states in Myanmar.

On the other hand Assam Rifles had apprehended two Myanmar nationals and recovered huge cache of arms in possession from them.

The security personnel had nabbed the two Myanmar nationals from India-Myanmar border and seized 10 sophisticated weapons including six AK series rifles, 12 magazines and 10 lakh foreign currency in possession from them.
