Coronavirus: Second test of Assam girl child reports negative

Guwahati/IBNS: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Assam’s Jorhat district on Sunday morning said that the second test of the four-year-old girl child suspected to have Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been found negative.

The second test was done at Regional Medical Research Centre, Lahowal in Dibrugarh district.

Earlier on Saturday evening, the district administration said that the girl child who came with her family from Bihar to Jorhat on March 19 had tested positive after the test done at Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH).

Jorhat district Deputy Commissioner Roshni Aparanji Korati on Saturday evening said that the test was found positive at Jorhat Medical College Hospital laboratory and the sample was then sent to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) accredited laboratory of Regional Medical Research Centre, Lahowal in Dibrugarh district for rechecking.

The top government official on Sunday morning confirmed that the second test done at Regional Medical Research Centre, Lahowal has been tested negative for COVID-19.

On the other hand, Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted that: “The 4 year old child who was suspected of #COVID19 and tested in Jorhat Medical College and RMRC, Dibrugarh has been found NEGATIVE. There is no Covid19 positive case in Assam so far.”

Over 1.65 people have been screened at airports, railway stations and other places in the state so far and 262 people are under home isolation.

According to the reports, a total of 26,094 passengers were screened at six airports in the state till Saturday.
