Congress should be renamed as 'Muslim League Congress', says BJP

New Delhi/UNI: The BJP on Wednesday stepped up attack against the Congress for its 'relentless' and alleged Muslim appeasement policy and said that the country's grand old party should be renamed as 'Muslim League Congress'.

"This party has become Muslim League Congress. It speaks only about Muslims, and that also giving mere lip service to Muslims too....by not doing anything good for the minority community. But indulge only in appeasement," BJP spokesman Sambit Patra told reporters here.

In order to strengthen his argument, the BJP leader cited instances of recent statements by Congress leader Ashok Chavan - where in he had said that the Congress took the approval of the Muslims before aligning with the Shiv Sena to form government in Maharashtra.

Mr Patra also said, six people from the PFI were arrested in Karnataka. "It is the same organization that has, in the past, been supported by both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and it is the PFI which has been plotting to kill RSS and BJP's people".

The BJP spokesman also alleged that the Congress party and some of its allies have used the anti-CAA protest to make defamatory charges against the Hindus.

Citing Ashok Chavan's remarks that Muslims were saying that BJP is their prime enemy and thus 'we should make the Government with Shiv Sena to keep them out of power', the saffron party spokesman said: "Does this not mean that the Congress forms Government only asking the Muslims; do they not care about the Hindus or the other communities?"

In this context, he also cited NCP leader Jitendra Ahwad's statement that - "Muslims can say where their forefathers were engraved but Hindus won't be able to tell where the last rites of their forefathers happened".

"This (NCP leader's remark) is very demeaning. What form of politics is this?," the BJP spokesman wondered.
