Blasts rock Imphal ahead of Republic day

Imphal/UNI: Twin blasts in the heart of the city sent shockwaves ahead of the Republic day here today.

Two IEDs blasted at the same time at RIMS road around 0500 hours. However, no one was injured.

The sound of the blast was heard till a long distance as the IEDs were powerful. Many shops near the road were badly damaged. Imphal West police personnel rushed in and cordoned off the area.

Massive combing operations had been carried out in view of the Republic day celebrations. Police has been regularly calling out people at various places to
check their identities.

A high alert was sounded and security was beefed up. Many vehicles were also stopped and checked.

People were frisked and police assigned duties at various locations.

Police also announced new traffic regulations near the route of the Republic day parade.
