BJP leads in UP civic poll, BSP appears second

Lucknow, Dec 1 (IBNS): Within one year of capturing power in the state, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has got another reason to celebrate as the saffron brigade is leading in majority of the civic bodies in which polls were conducted in late November, media reports said.

According to the latest news report, the BJP is leading in 12 out of 16 civic bodies, continuing the winning streak in the state.

Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BJP) is standing at the second spot with four seats under its belt.

Leaving the civic bodies, the saffron party even is looking strong in the municipal councils and nagar panchayat polls.

The BJP is leading in most of 198 municipal councils and 428 nagar panchayats with the Samajwadi Party (SP) at the second place.

The win in the civic poll will be considered to be extremely important for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who assumed the portfolio in March this year, as the election is the first biggest assignment as the CM.

While Adityanath was seen to hold a large of rallies, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and BSP supremo Mayawati were missed in the campaigns of their respective parties.

In 2012, the BJP bagged 10 out of 12 mayoral seats in the state.

In 2017 state poll, the BJP had crushed Akhilesh's dream to become the CM for the second time by winning 325 out of 403 seats.
