Dhaka/UNI: Bangladesh on Tuesday received 31 basic life support ambulances and medical equipment that were gifted by India, in a ceremony attended by country's Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on March 26 announced to gift 109 life support ambulances to Bangladesh during his visit to Dhaka on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh's Independence and the birth centenary of father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami handed over the keys of 31 basic life support ambulances at the State Guest House Padma, at 4 PM on Tuesday.

Doraiswami also handed over medical equipment (Covid-19 medical equipment and empty oxygen cylinders) in the spirit of collaborative efforts and friendly gesture of the Government of India to combat the pandemic Covid-19 by the people and Government of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh had received 30 ambulances on August 6. "The rest of the ambulances are expected to reach soon," an official said.
