Based on intelligence input, Assam police launched a joint operation with Forest department battalion at Ram-Laksman hills in Karbi Anglong district.

“When the troops reached the hills area the poachers, from where they were hiding, started firing and heavy rounds of bullets were exchanged,” a top police official said.

Security personnel busted a camp which was used by the poacher gang and recovered two AK-56 rifle, one 303 rifle, four hand grenades, 142 rounds of AK series rifle ammunition, 23 rounds of 303 rifle ammunition, 52 rounds of M-4 rifle ammunition, a rhino horn and other items from the area.
