Guwahati, Nov 17 (IBNS): Assam would likely to grill president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Arshad Madani for his controversial remarks on the ongoing process of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) updation in Assam.

Special Director General of Assam police Kula Saikia on Friday said that, a special team of Assam police led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Pranjal Bora has already left for Delhi to probe the entire matter.

On Nov 13, Madani, while attending a seminar organized by Delhi Action Committee for Assam (DACA) held in New Delhi, said that Assam will burn, there will be killings and retaliation, if 50 lakh Muslims are left from the updation process of NRC.

Madani's controversial remark triggered massive protests in Assam and several organisations have registered bitter protest against it and at least eight FIRs had also been lodged against him as well as other persons who attended the seminar, in various places in the state.

“Among the eight cases two cases have been registered at Fatasil Ambari and Basistha police station in Guwahati against Arshad Madani, intellectuals of Assam Dr Hiren Gohain, Haidar Hussain, Manjit Mahanta, Apurba Baruah. On Friday two more cases have been registered at Golaghat Sadar and Dergaon police stations filed by two different persons,” the top Assam cop said.

Special DG Kula Saikia further said that, the Assam police team, which left for Delhi, will interrogate the organizers of the seminar and is also likely to grill Madani and other persons regarding it.

“Police will investigate all cases and law will take its own course,” Kula Saikia said.

On the other hand, Guwahati city police on Friday grilled Manjit Mahanta for several hours in connection with the case registered at Fatasil Ambari police station

Massive protests are held across the state against the controversial remarks made by Madani and several organizations demanded his arrest under National Security Act (NSA).
