Assam: 3 tea labourers die after consuming illicit liquor

Guwahati, Apr 29 (IBNS) : At least three persons died and 99 others, including 22 children and 27 women,fell ill after consuming illicit liquor in Assam's Jorhat district, officials said.

Tea garden labourers of Dholi tea garden in upper Assam district felt ill and started vomiting on Tuesday night after consuming country made liquor which was sold illegally inside the garden.

The victims were immediately admitted to a local hospital. They were later referred to Jorhat Medical College hospital.

"Two labourers died on Tuesday night while another among the ill persons passed away later in a hospital," a top police official said.

Condition of the ill persons are stated to be critical.

Jorhat police have arrested three people for allegedly selling country made liquor without licence inside the tea estate.
