Kolkata, Feb 12 (IBNS): The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC)'s student wing Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP)'s leader was arrested for allegedly hitting cars and a man by his speeding car near Gariahat area in Kolkata on Thursday night, reports said.

According to reports, the speeding Mahindra Scorpio car (WB 06 J 4655) of TMCP leader Kanishka Mukherjee lost its control and hit another car on Bijon Setu near Kolkata's Gariahat area. A man was also injured after being hit by TMCP leader's vehicle.

"The car was coming very fast from Kasba side. It lost control at the middle of Bijon Setu and hit the guardrail at first. Then hit another car and a man too. After the accident, driver tried to escape from the spot, taking a u-turn," one eye-witness told IBNS.

When Kanishka was trying to flee, a vehicle of Jharkhand Police, which was passing by the area that time, chased his vehicle and a SSP ranked police officer of Jharkhand Police detained him.

Thereafter, police from Gariahat Police Station arrested the student leader.

However, Kanishka Mukherjee is likely to be produced to the Alipore Court in Kolkata on Friday.
