Abhishek Banerjee slaps legal notice against Mukul Roy over Biswa Bangla controversy

Kolkata, Nov 13 (IBNS): Trinamool Congress' Youth Wing president and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee has slapped a legal notice against former TMC leader Mukul Roy, now a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member, as the latter accused the former of owning the Biswa Bangla brand, media reports said.

Roy, holding his first rally as a BJP leader on Friday, alleged that Biswa Bangla, which organised the U-17 World Cup Football, was owned by West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew and TMC leader Abhishek.

“Biswa Bangla is a private company owned by Abhishek Banerjee. Even the TMC mouthpiece Jago Bangla is owned by Mamata’s nephew," Roy said on Friday.

Within hours of Roy's rally, the officials of the West Bengal government held a press conference stating Biswa Bangla is registered under the name of the state government.

Abhishek even demanded an apology from Roy, who was considered the number-two man in the TMC for a long time.

Roy on Friday even alleged that the Trinamool Congress's mouthpiece Jago Bangla is a "private company" which is owned and run by Abhishek.

The TMC's Youth Wing organised a protest rally in the city on Monday to counter Roy's allegations.

Roy, who joined the BJP last week, said Mamata is no longer the same person with whom he fought against the Left Front.

Roy, who was suspended from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), quit as the Rajya Sabha MP last month.
