5-star hotel in Guwahati to isolate doctors, nurses treating COVID-19 patients

Guwahati/IBNS: Doctors and nurses treating the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients will be quarantined at a five-star hotel in Guwahati at the Assam government’s expense.

Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the doctors, nurses treating the Coronavirus patients in three hospitals in Guwahati will be quarantined at Hotel Taj Vivanta in Guwahati and the state government will bear the expenses.

“The first COVID-19 positive case in Assam was detected on March 31. The doctors, nurses who are treating the Coronavirus patients at Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) and Sonapur civil hospital, they will be kept under quarantine for 14 days," Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

"They will be quarantined at Hotel Taj Vivanta in Guwahati. After their duties for seven days, they are to be mandatorily put in quarantine for 14 days. We have made arrangements for them at Hotel Taj Vivanta, Guwahati for their comfortable stay. We will make similar arrangements for other places also,” he said.

The Assam minister also said that the state government has decided to provide Rs 50 lakh insurance to the employees of 108 ambulances and 104 health helpline services in the state.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already announced Rs 50 lakh insurance for the doctors and now our government has decided to provide Rs 50 lakh insurance to the 108 ambulance and 104 health helpline employees. The state government will also provide Rs 1000 additionally to the employees of 108 ambulance service for next three months,”  Sarma said.

He also said that the state government will release full salary to the state government employees for the month of March.

26 positive cases for COVID-19 have been detected in the state so far.
