36 Maoists killed in Chhatisgarh combat operation along Dantewada border

New Delhi/IBNS: Security forces killed 36 Maoists in a forest along the Narayanpur-Dantewada border in Chhattisgarh during a combat operation Thursday, bringing in a huge success for the forces in recent times, media reports said.

The District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Special Task Force (STF) began the anti-Maoist operation on Wednesday, and contact happened at 12.30 pm on Thursday, reports said.

The encounter was underway till the last received reports.

Several assault rifles including AK series and other weapons have been recovered, said reports.

Following intelligence reports of a large Maoist presence, separate teams in the joint operation rushed to villages in Govel, Nendur and Thulthuli under Orcha and Barsur police stations. They launched combing operations in these villages.

The encounter broke out at noon on Friday in the forests near Nendur-Thulthuli.

Using extreme caution, the security forces continued to pursue the remaining Maoists who had retreated deeper into the forest, said reports.
