Caught using ChatGPT during IIT Bombay exam, student later found dead In hostel
A second-year IIT Bombay student who was reportedly caught using ChatGPT during an examination is suspected to have died by suicide, media reports said.
According to IIT Bombay, the student had uploaded the examination question paper to ChatGPT in an attempt to seek answers, India Today reported.
The institute, however, said that no disciplinary action had been initiated against him after he was caught cheating.
The matter was reportedly discussed with the student in the presence of the instructor and the Head of the Department, who counselled him following the incident.
The student, from the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, was reportedly assured that the incident would not affect his academic career.
He subsequently returned to his hostel room, where his body was later found.
“The circumstances surrounding the death are being looked into by the appropriate authorities,” the institute was quoted as saying by India Today.
Following the incident, students reportedly staged a protest on the IIT Bombay campus.
