International art show in Kolkata focuses on erasing political boundaries

Sixth Dimension held their first ever International Art Show, 'We do not want to draw the line' at the Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata.

Veteran artist Ganesh Haloi and actor Ushoshi Sengupta inaugurated the exhibition.

Chairman of Ambuja-Neotia group Harsh Neotia, director Kamaleswar Mukherjee, Shalini Patherya, Dilip Mitra, artist Pankaj Panwar, famed art critic Nemiraj Shetty andcultural personality Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee were also present.

Speaking about the endeavour, co-organiser and participating artist Dipendranath Pal said,"The idea stemmed from the mind of six friends who have, over the course of their life, settled down into different fields of art, design graphics etc. The concept is to bring together everyone under the same platform, during the course of which we realized that creativity is something that seamlessly mingles into each other diminishing the barriers caused by genres. Methods and modes may be different, but creativity remains constant.”

Anjan Ghosh, designer and another organizer added,"Political boundaries, if erased, would make the world more beautiful. Our concept is that humanity prevails but not borders. The bringing in of artists from various countries support the ideology.”

He added, “This is our first year, and the response we have received is just mind blowing. Each and every artist here believes that art is above and beyond boundaries and they have come together for it. We hope to come back bigger next year.”

The participating artists included four painters, one sculptor and 10 photographers.

Speaking to IBNS, Armando Correa Ribeiro, a photographer from Brazil said, "It’s a great experience for me to come to India and participate in such a wonderful exhibition.”

“I mainly love to photograph postures of people, their feelings, expression and how they spend their daily life,” he added.

Ziba Vishteh, a painter from Iran said, "I like to paint about those individuals who leave a great impression on me. Initially, when I plan to paint a portrait, I take two to three weeks to think about it deeply, then when I start the process of putting it down o canvas, it takes around three hours, and finally the process of colouring takes near about a month, to achieve perfection.”

The participating artists included Anjan Ghosh, Dipendranath, Alina IGloria Mundi, Sinisia Coni CR, Armando Correa Ribeiro, Rima Paul, Avedananda Goswami, Mia Ferrara Basel, Babir Das, Deepanjan Sarkar, Ebru Horoz, Ziba Vishteh, Miharu Watanabe, Piya Dutta Nandi and Shampashree Mund.

The exhibition also held two interactive sessions, 'At in flux' by Soumik Nandy and 'How to read a work of art' by Nemiraj Shetty.

The exhibition also saw the launch of a book titled Silent Metaphors.
