Inside Kolkata’s first rooftop Starbucks Reserve: Rare coffee, skyline views and a luxury café experience unlike any other

Tata Starbucks has recently unveiled its first Starbucks Reserve store in Kolkata, located atop Quest Mall — also the brand’s first-ever rooftop Reserve store in the country.

For those unfamiliar with Starbucks Reserve, it represents the most premium and elevated tier of the Starbucks experience. Designed for coffee connoisseurs, Reserve stores offer an immersive journey into the world of rare single-origin coffees, artisanal brewing methods, and thoughtfully curated interiors inspired by the culture and identity of each location.

With the opening of the Kolkata outlet, India now has its fourth Starbucks Reserve store. The other three are located in Mumbai, Gurugram and New Delhi.

The Kolkata space instantly reflects the city’s rich artistic and cultural heritage. Warm wooden tones, geometric motifs inspired by Bengali art, and large visual installations celebrating Kolkata’s iconic landmarks lend the café a distinctly local soul while maintaining the sophistication associated with Starbucks Reserve.

But the true highlight is the rooftop experience itself. There’s something quietly poetic about sipping a carefully brewed cup of rare single-origin coffee while overlooking Kolkata’s sprawling skyline — the city buzzing below, the evening breeze setting in, and every sip carrying the story of beans sourced from across the world.

Adrit Mishra ,chief operating officer of Tata Starbucks, said the launch of the first Starbucks Reserve store in Kolkata marks a special milestone for the brand as it continues to elevate the coffeehouse experience in India.

He added that what makes Starbucks Reserve different from regular Starbucks outlets is its rare single-origin coffee beans, sourced in limited quantities from local farmers around the world, along with highly trained coffee masters dedicated to delivering the finest coffee experience to customers.

Speaking about the idea behind launching the country’s first rooftop Starbucks Reserve in Kolkata, Adrit Mishra told IBNS that having grown up in Joka, he understands the city’s deep love for both tea and coffee. He said the rooftop setting and ambience were designed to make every sip of coffee more memorable, adding that the growing love for coffee among Indian consumers has encouraged the company to plan more such stores in the future.
