Google Pics is here! New AI image tool can edit photos, text and objects in seconds

Tech giant Google is rolling out Google Pics, a new image creation and editing tool that should not be confused with Google Photos or Google Images.

Announcing the launch, Google said Google Pics is an image creation and editing tool from Google Workspace and will roll out over the coming weeks to all Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, as well as most Workspace business customers.

“Google Pics — our image creation and editing tool from Google Workspace — is rolling out over the coming weeks to all Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers and most Workspace business customers,” Google said in a blog post.

Built on Google’s Nano Banana image-generation and editing model, Pics is designed to give users greater control over image creation and editing. The tool can be used to create posters, produce social media content and edit digital illustrations.

Google Pics will be available both as a standalone product and through Workspace apps, initially including Google Slides, Docs and Drive. This will allow users to create and edit images directly within the apps where they are already working.

The tool also includes a suite of fine-tuned editing features that allow users to generate images and make precise changes without having to start from scratch.

Key Google Pics features

Object segmentation: Pics allows users to isolate individual objects within an image and transform them without affecting the rest of the picture. Users can also add text instructions to specific areas of an image to request targeted changes and carry out multiple edits simultaneously.

In-image text editing and translation: Users can modify or translate text directly within an image while preserving the existing design and font.

Collaboration: Users can share their Pics creations with friends and colleagues and collaborate on editing the same image.

Multiple generations: Pics can generate several versions from a single prompt, allowing users to select their preferred result from multiple iterations.
