Fujifilm launches Monster 609mm-Equivalent Lens: Meet the new XF400mmF4.5

| @indiablooms | Sep 04, 2026, at 06:39 pm

Fujifilm North America Corporation's Electronic Imaging Division has announced the launch of the FUJINON XF400mmF4.5 R LM OIS WR (XF400mm), a super-telephoto prime lens designed to deliver high optical performance while maintaining a compact and lightweight form factor.

The lens features a 400mm focal length, equivalent to 609mm in the 35mm format, along with a bright maximum aperture of F4.5. It is designed for photographers shooting distant, fast-moving subjects, including wildlife, birds, motorsports and aircraft.

“When you're making images outdoors, reach matters,” said Victor Ha, vice president and general manager of the Electronic Imaging Division at FUJIFILM North America Corporation.

“You need a lens that gets you close to the action without disturbing the scene or wearing you down over a long day. XF400mm lets photographers stay mobile and react to what's in front of them, without having to trade image quality to do it.”

Ha added that the balance between size and performance gives super-telephoto lenses a creative advantage, describing the XF400mm as “lightweight, compact and powerful.”

With the addition of the XF400mm, the FUJINON X Mount lineup of super-telephoto prime lenses now covers 35mm-equivalent focal lengths ranging from 305mm to approximately 762mm. The expanded lineup gives photographers greater flexibility across applications such as wildlife, sports and aviation photography.

Extended Reach With Teleconverters

The XF400mm can be paired with Fujifilm's teleconverters to further extend its focal length.

The FUJINON Teleconverter XF1.4X TC WR, available separately, increases the focal length to 560mm, equivalent to 853mm in the 35mm format. Meanwhile, the FUJINON Teleconverter XF2X TC WR extends the focal length to 800mm, equivalent to 1,219mm in the 35mm format.

Advanced Optical Design

The XF400mm features a 21-element, 14-group optical configuration incorporating two Super ED elements and four ED elements.

According to Fujifilm, the optical design helps minimise chromatic aberration, a common challenge with super-telephoto lenses, while delivering high resolution and detailed images. The lens is designed to capture distant subjects with clarity, making it particularly suited to wildlife and other forms of long-distance photography.

Pricing and Availability

The FUJINON XF400mmF4.5 R LM OIS WR is scheduled to be available from mid-September 2026.

The lens will carry a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of $3,199.95 in the US and $3,899.99 in Canada.
