Goa government faces floor test today

| @indiablooms | Mar 20, 2019, at 09:05 am

Panaji, Mar 20 (IBNS): In a major development, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and his government are going to face the floor test on Tuesday.

His government will need to prove the majority in the Goa assembly, a day after the CM took oath during a late night ceremony.

The BJP has moved its legislators to a five-star hotel ahead of the trust vote, sources have told NDTV.

The strength of the house has been reduced to 36.

The strength of the 40-member house has been reduced due to the deaths of late CM Manohar Parrikar, BJP legislator Francis D'Souza and resignations of two Congress lawmakers Subhash Shirodkar and Dayanand Sopte.

"We, being in the government, want this government to survive, but I must say this is a new beginning. You can never say how the future will go," Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sardesai told NDTV.

Parrikar died on Sunday.

Pramod Sawant took oath as the CM on Tuesday night.
