Minister can't be punished for son's conduct in Lakhimpur Kheri case, say BJP sources: Report

New Delhi/IBNS: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is unlikely to remove junior Home Minister Ajay Mishra over the conduct of his son, who has been accused of mowing down protesting farmers in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri, according to media reports.

NDTV reported citing a BJP source that the senior leadership of the party is against precipitate action and Mishra will not be removed at the moment from the Council of Ministers.

Party sources said Mishra has, however, been warned for his outburst on journalists yesterday while inaugurating an oxygen plant in Lakhimpur.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has been spearheading an attack against Ajay Mishra and demanding his removal.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case has said the killing of the farmers was a "planned conspiracy".

The initial SIT report said that Ashish Mishra crushed the farmers with the "intent to commit murder" and it was "not death by negligence".

The report recommended that existing charges against Ashish Mishra and the others be modified from "rash driving" and those of 'attempt to murder' and 'voluntarily causing hurt' be added.

Ashish Mishra and others are already facing murder and conspiracy charges.
