Dense fog triggers massive multi-vehicle pile-up in Haryana, several injured

At least three dozen vehicles, including trucks and buses, were involved in a massive pile-up on a highway in Haryana’s Rohtak on Sunday after dense fog reduced visibility to near zero, media reports said.

Several drivers and passengers were injured, while many vehicles were left badly damaged.

The major accident occurred in the Meham area of Rohtak, where 35–40 vehicles—mostly trucks—collided at a highway intersection.

Police said a collision between a truck and a car triggered a chain reaction, with multiple vehicles crashing into one another within seconds.

The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals as police and district administration officials carried out rescue and relief operations.

Visuals from the site showed mangled vehicles, including a heavily crushed truck, as bystanders and emergency teams worked to rescue those trapped inside.

Two other fog-related accidents were reported from Hisar and Rewari districts.

In Hisar, a pile-up occurred at Dhiktana Moda on National Highway 52 around 8 am after a Kaithal roadways bus collided with a dumper truck.

Another bus following closely rammed into them, followed by a car and a motorcycle. While hundreds of passengers escaped unhurt, the motorcycle rider sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital.

In Rewari, three to four buses collided on National Highway 352 due to poor visibility. Several people were injured and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Haryana has been witnessing a severe cold wave over the past few days, with temperatures ranging between 4 and 6 degrees Celsius across many districts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a cold wave alert, warning of hazardous driving conditions due to dense fog.

Commuters were advised to use low-beam headlights, maintain safe distances, and exercise extreme caution on fog-affected roads.
