‘We are a rich nation!’: iPhone Duo sells out on Blinkit in India in just 5 minutes

Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, reportedly sold out within five minutes of becoming available on quick-commerce platform Blinkit, triggering reactions on social media over the device’s premium price and demand in India.

Blinkit founder Albinder Dhindsa announced the development in a post on X, saying the smartphone went on sale at 8.15 am on Friday for customers in Delhi-NCR.

According to Dhindsa, all available units were sold within five minutes.

He added that the company was “working on getting more stock in the coming weeks”.

However, Dhindsa did not disclose how many units Blinkit had offered for sale, prompting users to question the scale of the reported sell-out.

Blinkit sell-out sparks debate on X

The rapid sell-out attracted considerable attention on social media, with users questioning whether the reported demand reflected strong consumer interest or the limited number of units available on the platform.

One user asked how many smartphones Blinkit had stocked, writing: “How many units, 2 or 5? Because Apple themselves have admitted a lukewarm response to their Duo mobiles. So unless you are selling single-digit, this ain't possible.”

Others responded with surprise at the apparent demand for a smartphone carrying a starting price of nearly ₹3 lakh in India.

“What did I tell you? Apple made a great mistake by not launching it in 10L. It would have still been sold out within minutes,” one user commented.

Another reaction summed up the discussion in three words: “This means we are a rich nation.”

The absence of figures on the number of units sold has left the scale of Blinkit’s reported sell-out unclear. The platform’s founder said additional stock was expected in the coming weeks but did not provide a specific date.

Crowds gather at Apple’s Delhi store

The smartphone also attracted attention at Apple’s retail outlets as it officially went on sale in India on Friday morning.

Long queues and large crowds reportedly gathered at Apple’s Saket Store inside Select Citywalk Mall in Delhi to purchase the new device.

The launch has brought renewed attention to the premium smartphone segment in India, where the iPhone Duo’s starting price is ₹2,99,900.

The cost rises to ₹4,49,900 for the top-end storage variant.

Apple has introduced the iPhone Duo in four storage configurations in India.

The 256GB model costs ₹2,99,900, while the 512GB variant is priced at ₹3,24,900.

The 1TB version carries a price tag of ₹3,74,900, and the top-end 2TB model costs ₹4,49,900.

The device features a 7.6-inch flexible inner display that folds into a more compact form with a 5.4-inch outer cover screen.

It is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip and features a 48-megapixel Dual Fusion camera system.

The smartphone also comes with a titanium frame, positioning it as a premium offering in Apple’s product range.
