Priyanka Gandhi Vadra detained in Sitapur, authorities ban entry of politicians in Lakhimpur

Sitapur/ Lakhimpur Kheri/UNI: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with other party leaders, were taken in custody in Sitapur after a whole night drama as they were heading towards violence-hit Lakhimpur Kheri region of Uttar Pradesh.

UP police tried to stop Priyanka, at several places after she started her journey towards Lakhimpur Kheri around mid night from Lucknow.

Later police was successful at Khairabad in Sitapur after they failed at Itaunja toll and at Sidhauli in the early Monday morning.

Along with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Uttar Pradesh chief Ajay Kumar Lallu and Rajya sabha member Deepender Hudda were taken in custody. They were kept at guest house in the police lines in Sitapur.

Priyanka told the media ,"I was going to meet the families of the victims. I am going to pacify the deceased families. I am going to share the pain of the victims. What happened shows that the government is doing politics of crushing the farmers. Politics is being done to eliminate them".

Similarly, dalit leader Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan was also detained in Sitapur while BSP general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra was detained at his residence in Lucknow.

BKU leader Rakesh Tikait was allowed alone to reach Tikonia in Lakhimpur and was holding meeting with the protesting farmers.

In Lucknow, police force has been deployed at the residence of Samajwadi party president Akhilesh Yadav, who has announced to go to Lakhimpur on Tuesday morning.

Police has also been posted at all the residences of the opposition leaders who could go to Lakhimpur.

Meanwhile Lakhimpur Kheri authorities have clamped section 144 of the CrPC in the entire district and they have banned entry of all political leaders.

Four farmers were reportedly killed in the wake of an anti-farm law protest in the district on Sunday.

Violence erupted following the death of the farmers.
