Ukraine: Mariupol Mayor describes 'two days of hell' after the bombing of hospital

Kyiv: The Mayor of the Ukrainian city of Mariupol, Vadym Boychenko, issued a video message, condemning Russia for its "cynical and destructive war against humanity", Al Jazeera reported on Friday.

Boychenko said this after Russian planes bombed a maternity hospital on Wednesday in which at least three people were killed, including a child.

In the video shared by him he showed the extensive damage to the hospital building. Boychenko said that Russian air force bombed the city every 30 minutes targeting civilian buildings and killing civilians, including elderly, women and children."

He described the Russian attacks as a "genocide".

He also said there is the "highest level of cynicism" around the evacuation corridors for civilians and humanitarian aid to pass.

He accused the Russian forces of keeping 400,000 Mariupol citizensas "hostage" by neither allowing them to escape to safer places nor allowing them access to humanitarian aid.
