One of Kyiv's largest aerial attacks:Russia claims 822 Ukrainian drones downed, apocalyptic blaze videos go viral
Russian authorities have claimed that more than 800 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight in one of the largest aerial attacks launched by Kyiv since the war began in 2022.
The Russian Defence Ministry said its air defence forces intercepted and destroyed 822 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones between 8 p.m. Moscow time on August 15 and 8 a.m. on August 16.
According to a statement quoted by TASS, the drones were downed over several Russian regions, including Belgorod, Bryansk, Vladimir, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, Rostov, Ryazan, Tambov and Tula. Drones were also reportedly intercepted over the Moscow Region, Krasnodar Region, Crimea, and parts of the Azov and Black Seas.
Meanwhile, Rostov Region Governor Yury Slyusar said that three people were killed and another was injured in a drone attack in the region.
"Last night, three people were killed as a result of an aerial attack on the Rostov Region, and one more has been hospitalised with injuries," Slyusar wrote on the Max messaging platform, according to TASS.
Wildberries Warehouse Hit in Moscow Region
The large-scale drone offensive also reportedly targeted a Wildberries warehouse in the Moscow region, marking another strike against the Russian e-commerce company's logistics infrastructure.
Ukraine has previously targeted several Wildberries logistics hubs, claiming they are legitimate military-related targets because the company allegedly supplies drone components, navigation equipment and other equipment to the Russian military. The company and Russian authorities have denied the allegations.
Ukraine's Defence Ministry confirmed the latest strike in a post on X, claiming that seven of Wildberries' 10 largest logistics hubs have been put out of operation.
"Ukraine has taken 7 of Wildberries’ 10 largest logistics hubs out of operation," the ministry said. It added that following the large-scale drone attack on the Moscow region, the company's logistics hub at the Koledino industrial park, along with the warehouse in Domodedovo, had ceased operations.
The ministry described the Domodedovo facility as Wildberries' largest warehouse by area, covering approximately 250,000 square metres.
Videos circulating online showed a massive fire at a Wildberries warehouse in the Moscow region following the reported attack. No injuries have been reported from the warehouse incident so far.
The claims from Russia and Ukraine could not be independently verified.
