London/IBNS: Britain's King Charles III on Friday bestowed the titles of Prince and Princess of Wales on his eldest son William and daughter-in-law Kate.

He passed on the titles that he and his late wife Diana previously held.

"With Catherine (Kate) beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the centre ground where vital help can be given," King Charles III said in his first address to the nation as the monarch.

Following the Queen's death, her eldest son Charles succeeded as the new monarch.

King Charles III will officially be proclaimed as Britain's new monarch on Saturday morning at a meeting of the Accession Council in Buckingham Palace said.

In his address to the nation, King Charles III said: "Queen Elizabeth's was a life well lived, she is mourned deeply. I promise the lifelong service in all the countries. There's a deep sense of gratitude where my mother has served."

The King pledged to serve the nation with dedication like his mother.

"As the queen herself did her service with dedication, I also pledge my dedication to the constitution. I shall endevour to serve you with loyalty and love," he said.
