Baghdad, July 24 (IBNS): At least 20 people were killed in a suicide bomb attack on a security checkpoint in Iraq's capital Baghdad city on Sunday, media reports said.

The incident has left 35 others injured.

"The attack targeted the entrance to the mainly Shia Muslim area of Kadhimiyah in north-west Baghdad," BBC reported.

The IS militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

"Baghdad Province of the Islamic State (IS) claimed killing and wounding over 50 Iraqi soldiers and Popular Mobilization elements in a suicide bombing in al-Kadhimiya, in the north of the province," SITE Intel Group tweeted.
