Australian Senate President Stephen Parry to resign over citizenship row

| @indiablooms | Nov 01, 2017, at 06:51 pm

Canberra, Nov 1 (IBNS): In a massive development, Australia's Senate President Stephen Parry has said he will resign after confirming his dual citizenship, reports said.

Parry said he is a dual UK citizen and inherited it from his father.

On Friday, the High Court of Australia ruled five lawmakers' candidature as invalid after they failed to satisfy the citizenship criteria.

Among them were Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce and Regional Development Minister Fiona Nash.

Parry said that he made the announcement with a heavy heart.

His replacement will be chosen through a recount of votes from last year's election.
