IPL: Mukul Mudgal Committee to agrees to continue probe

New Delhi, Apr 22 (IBNS): Justice Mukul Mudgal Committee, who was asked by the Supreme Court to respond on whether they can probe further into the Indian Premier League (IPL) scam, has agreed to do so.

It is now awaiting the apex court's nod.

Justice Mudgal told CNN-IBN on Tuesday that the committee has given its consent to continue its probe.

"We [the panel] have given our consent; it is entirely for the Supreme Court to decide...I will wait for the Supreme Court's order," he said.

The  Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) earlier in the day, proposed to the Supreme Court names of a three member panel that would investigate the allegations of  betting and spot-fixing during the cash-rich IPL last year.

"The three members are the former Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, Jai Narayan Patel, the former Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation, R.K. Raghavan, and the former India captain-turned-commentator, Ravi Shastri," The Hindu reported.

However, petitioner Aditya Verma objected to the proposal.

The apex court then asked Justice Mukul Mudgal Committee if it can probe further. The committee was asked to respond by 2 pm.

In the wake of the Supreme Court's observation on its suspended president N Srinivasan in connection with the IPL spot fixing scandal, the BCCI held its emergent Working Committee meeting in Mumbai on Sunday where the decision on the three-member panel was taken.

This came after Supreme Court on Wednesday revealed that Srinivasan has been named among 13 other people in the sealed report submitted by the Justice Mukul Mudgal committee in connection with the spot fixing scandal.

The apex court, thereby, said that Srinivasan cannot perform any duties of BCCI and that its interim order of Mar 28 will stand.

The court has asked the BCCI to reply on how it will conduct a probe into the match-fixing and betting allegations against those named in the report .

The SC wants BCCI to do the probe itself to maintain its functional autonomy; however, in such case, Srinivasan cannot be part of the BCCI. It also suggested the appointment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) if the BCCI doesn't probe the matter.
