India Blooms News Service | @indiablooms | 16 Nov 2022, 02:52 pm

Melbourne/UNI: The Australian government has overturned Novak Djokovic's visa ban, clearing him to play at next year's Australian Open, according to a media report.

Djokovic was deported in January, before he could compete in the grand slam, after Australia's immigration Minister cancelled his visa over his refusal to be vaccinated against Covid19.

Immigration Minister Andrew Giles - whose government came to power in May - has overturned the ban and is set to grant Djokovic a visa, BBC reported.

Earlier, Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley said that Djokovic would be welcome in Jan. if he could get a visa, but that Tennis Australia was unable to lobby on his behalf.

The former world number one Djokovic is aiming to win and match Rafael Nadal’s record of 22 Grand Slam titles.
