‘There was a lot of tension’: Eugenio Franceschini opens up about viral Emily in Paris nude moment

Paris/IBNS: Italian actor Eugenio Franceschini has spoken about his much-discussed nude scene in Emily in Paris Season 5, which premiered on Netflix on December 18.

In the third episode of the latest season, Franceschini, who plays Marcello Muratori, appears naked as he gets out of bed after a romantic moment with Emily Cooper, portrayed by Lily Collins.

As Marcello walks away, Emily watches him from the bed and jokes, “Well, I hate to see you go, but I love to watch you leave,” before adding, “That translates to, ‘I like your butt.’”

The scene takes an awkward turn when Marcello walks down the staircase nude and unexpectedly encounters Emily’s best friend Mindy Chen, played by Ashley Park, who is seated on the couch. Startled, Marcello quickly turns around and runs back upstairs in an attempt to cover himself.

In a later moment, after Mindy moves out of Emily’s apartment, Marcello steps out of bed wearing underwear, prompting Emily to comment on his sudden modesty. In response, he drops the underwear as he exits the scene.

The scenes have generated significant online discussion, though Franceschini said the experience was not unusual for him.

Speaking to People at the world premiere in Paris, the 34-year-old actor said, “There was a lot of tension and everything about this kind of scene,” adding, “I’m used to acting naked on the stage. I did a play where I was naked on the stage in front of the audience, so for me it was nothing.”

Released with all episodes simultaneously, the fifth season of Emily in Paris expands beyond Paris, with Emily’s journey taking her to Rome and Venice. The season explores new professional and personal challenges, including romantic developments that lead to a dramatic, cliffhanger-filled finale.

The season also delves deeper into character arcs, including Emily’s evolving relationships and Sylvie’s personal growth, setting the stage for a potential sixth season.
