Temple, church, mosque co-existing in Kerala: John Abraham on 'non-Modi-fication' of southern state

Mumbai: Actor John Abraham, who has been a part of a number of patriotic Bollywood films of late, was recently asked about why his home state Kerala has not been "Modi-fied" hinting Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s failure to make an inroad in the southern state.

John, who was present at the launch event of book The God Who Loved Motorbikes in Mumbai, said as quoted by India Today, "That’s the beauty about Kerala. You can see a temple, a mosque and a church within 10 metres of each other peacefully co-existing without any problem whatsoever.

There’s absolutely no issue there. With the entire world getting very polarised, Kerala is an example of a place where religions and communities can co-exist so peacefully."

The actor, however, admitted the state has an extremism in the form of Communism.

Remembering how posters and hoardings were all over the state to mourn the death of Communist revolutionary Fidel Castro, John said there is a Communist side of a lot of Malayalis.

Though the BJP decimated the entire Opposition in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, it failed to win a single seat in Kerala which has never witnessed a saffron regime.

John has been a part of several patriotic films like Madras Cafe, Satyameva Jayate, Parmanu, Batla House in his career.
