Mumbai, May 1 (IBNS): Singer Sona Mohapatra has alleged that she received a threatening email notice from Madariya Sufi Foundation, which demanded her to take down the music video Tori Surat.

Tweeting Mumbai Police, Sona said: "Respected @CPMumbaiPolice , I have been sent a threatening email notice from the Madariya Sufi Foundation demanding that I take down a music video that has been passed by the censor board of India & I would like to forward the same to your official email id along with my response"

In early tweets, Sona stated the foundation have problems with the video in which the singer could be seen in sleeveless dresses.

She said: "The Madariya foundation along with the agreement of the Nizamuddin Dargah have an issue with the description of my Tori Surat music video, “earthy incarnations of the feminine Divine” & with “a sleeveless dress and body exposing dancers”. Basically with everything woman & free."

"Dear @MumbaiPolice the Madariya Sufi foundation claims to work for Sufism, peace & universal brotherhood in their threatening notice to me. I ask you & #India ,what about the ‘sisterhood’?Why is it that in this day & age the women expected to cover up, not sing or dance in public " the singer said in a follow-up tweet.

Lashing out at the critics on Tuesday, Sona said in a tweet, "The earthy incarnations of the feminine divine https://youtu.be/lWoNbIp3aDc  )If this offends you, then please go live in your pre-historic cave. )"

Condemning the threats, lyricist-poet Javed Akhtar tweeted, "In strongest possible words I condemn those regressive and reactionary organisations who are threatening Sona Mahapatra for making a music video of a Amir Khusrau ‘ Geet . These mullas should know that Amir Khusrau belongs to every Indian . He is not your property ."

Tori Surat is a song from Sona's latest project Lal Pari Mastani.

The song was written by Amir Khusrow, who was a Sufi musician, poet and scholar, for his love.
