Personal issues took me back, says Aashiqui star Rahul Roy launching his music album
Following a long break from the industry, the actor, releasing a music album, said he is determined to climb the ladder yet again with films like Welcome to Russia, Message, The House et al.
So, in another attempt to make a comeback, Ashiqui star launched his music video album ‘Khawab’ alongside singer Khushi Kaur at a Mumbai five-star facility on the weekend.
Aashiqui (1990) may have taken Sanu, Alka and Nadim-Shravan to the peak of stardom, but both Rahul and Anu faded into oblivion in no time.
With Anu leaving the scene soon after, Rahul was always on the hunt, though in patches. After having starred in films like Junoon, Pyar ka Saaya, Sapne Saajan Ke, Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi, another musical drama, yet again put Rahul in the spotlight and he limped back to the industry in 1993. But that’s it.
Personal issues (divorce with wife Rajlaxmi Khanvilkar in 2014) marred Rahul’s career and his efforts to live up to fans’ expectations fell short by some distance. Trying to place himself in the Bollywood rat race hardly fetched him any success thereafter.
Though this album is just a mark of another entry to the industry, the actor didn’t shy away from admitting that personal matters did take things backward for him.
“See, I was getting work but my personal issues took me back. I had to go back to Australia for few years with PR status. So I don’t say these are comebacks or something. I just wanted to carry on with work like every other actor and would continue to do so,” Roy told IBNS on the sidelines of the music video release.
Asked what happened after Aashiqui, Rahul was frank in confessing that the height Aashiqui attained was something that couldn’t have been emulated later on. “The kind of popularity Aashiqui got was beyond expectations. And I have found it absolutely difficult to touch that or break that mark,” Roy revealed.
Now, three years after breaking up with wife and back from Australia, the return looks imminent as the actor has bagged a few roles of protagonists and is working over-time. “I am doing lead roles in few upcoming films like Welcome to Russia, Message, The House and two other projects which are yet to be named,” he said with conviction.
The actor, who is 49 currently, though cannot expect to do the lead roles for many more years and he knows it better than anybody else. So, he is not averse to doing even character roles that offer good content. “Neither big banner nor budget is important, I am open to do character roles provided it comes with a good content and a director,” Aashiqui star signed off.
