Oscars 2026 nominations announced: Sinners leads with 16 nods; India’s Homebound misses final cut

The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were announced on Thursday, and the final slate largely lived up to industry expectations.

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners emerged as the biggest contender of the year, sweeping an impressive 16 nominations, while Leonardo DiCaprio-led One Battle After Another followed closely with 14 nods.

India’s official submission, Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound, failed to make it to the final five in the Best International Feature Film category. Backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor, and had earlier made the Academy’s shortlist.

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein secured major recognition across technical and top categories, while Timothée Chalamet’s Marty Supreme picked up nine nominations, including Best Actor.

Among other highlights, Sentimental Value earned multiple acting and technical nominations, while Avatar: Fire and Ash dominated the visual effects and costume design categories.

Animated heavyweights like Zootopia 2 and Elio also secured spots in the Best Animated Feature lineup.

The nominations across 24 categories were unveiled by actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman during a live broadcast on ABC’s Good Morning America and streamed simultaneously on the Oscars’ official YouTube channel from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Los Angeles.

The 98th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre, with Conan O’Brien set to host the event.
