Lipstick Under My Burkha crosses Rs. 8 crores mark

Mumbai, July 26 (IBNS): Latest released Bollywood movie Lipstick Under My Burkha is continuing its strong performance at the Box Office as the movie has earned little over Rs. 8 crores so far.

Film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted: "#LipstickUnderMyBurkha Fri 1.22 cr, Sat 2.17 cr, Sun 2.41 cr, Mon 1.28 cr, Tue 1.36 cr. Total: ₹ 8.44 cr. India biz. EXCELLENT!."

The movie released in India on Friday.

Lipstick Under My Burkha, produced by Prakash Jha, is the story of four small town women chasing their secret dreams.

The movie had earned appreciation in several international film festivals so far.

Alankrita Shrivastava's critically acclaimed movie Lipstick Under My Burkha, which explores fantasies of some women in a small town, was earlier denied certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The film has been reportedly denied certification for being a "lady-oriented" film as the upset filmmaker said she is facing the mindset of the patriarchy which she has challenged.

The makers later approached the Revising Committee and the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) for the film's release.

"The story is lady oriented, their fantasy above life. There are contentious sexual scenes, abusive words, audio pornography and a bit sensitive touch about one particular section of society, hence film refused under guidelines 1(a), 2(vii), 2(ix), 2(x), 2(xi), 2(xii) and 3(i)." the CBFC said.
