Hope people are able to draw a line by taking away shame through #MeToo campaign: Kajol

Kolkata, Oct 9 (IBNS): Responding to the #MeToo campaign, which gathered momentum in India after actress Tanushree Dutta levelled allegations of sexual harassment against actor Nana Patekar, Bollywood's leading lady Kajol on Tuesday said she hopes the movement will embolden people to put an end to sexual misbehaviours.

Kajol made the comment while promoting her upcoming Hindi film Helicopter Eela here.

When specifically asked about the entire Nana Patekar episode and #MeToo by IBNS, Kajol said: "I think the #MeToo campaign was created by people to stand up and share their experience and to take away the shame and the embarrassment that such people feel over an incident like this, which happens in their lives and that is exactly what I think is happening currently (and) also with this particular movement.

"The most important thing is I hope by taking away the shame and embarrassment, people, who feel they come into the position like this, are able to draw that line and have the guts or have a chance to draw that line in the sand and say 'no more after this'," the 44-year old actress said.

Tanushree has recently alleged that Patekar misbehaved with her on the sets of 2008 movie Horn Ok Pleassss.

"Everyone knows about Nana Patekar that he has always been disrespectful towards women. People in the industry know about this and that he has beaten actresses, he has molested them, his behaviour with women has always been crude but no publication has printed anything about it," the actress told Zoom.

Dutta said the incident of misbehavior occurred during the shooting of the Bollywood movie in 2008.

The actress said she was supposed to perform a special dance number for in the movie.

The actress told News 18 that Patekar made her uncomfortable to the extent that she eventually had to opt out of doing the song.

In one of the recent developments, writer-director-producer Vinta Nanda has recounted her own experience of getting violated years ago.

Nanda took to social media to share her own experience, accusing actor Alok Nath, who is known for portraying "Sanskari" (traditional/honourable) roles, of rape.

Recounting her experience on the sets of Hindi serial Tara, Nanda said an "alcoholic" Alok had harassed the lead actress of the show.

After the television show had ended, Nanda said, Alok had raped her after allegedly spiking her drinks while she attended a party.

Actress Kangana Ranaut has alleged that producer-director Vikas Bahl had sexually misbehaved with her while they used to meet socially.

The Queen actress said: "I often told him off. He was scared of me but still every time we met socially greeted and hugged each other, he'd bury his face in my neck and hold me really tight and breathe in the smell of my hair. It took me great amount of strength and effort to pull myself out of his embrace. He'd say, 'I love how you smell K'."
