Mumbai, Jan 16 (IBNS): Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming movie "Padmaavat", which was earlier titled as "Padmavati", has been banned in Haryana, a Minister confirmed on Tuesday.

Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij tweeted: "Film Padmavati/Padmavat banned in Haryana."

The movie has been hit by controversies since a fringe group objected to its content earlier.

Haryana became the sixth state to ban the film.

Makers earlier changed the name of Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Raveer Singh's much awaited project to 'Padmaavat' from 'Padmavati'.

The film was earlier scheduled to release on Dec 1.

The movie, however, did not release due to objection by fringe group.

Amid controversies, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) passed Padmaavat with few edits.

The movie is now scheduled to release on Jan 25.

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's movie will now clash on the box office with Akshay Kumar's Padman.

Deepika is playing the character of Rani Padmini in the movie.
