Mountain View, Apr 7 (IBNS) Google on Thursday paid tributes to sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar on his 96th birth anniversary by dedicating a doodle.

The doodle features a sitar on the middle and tree branches outlining the company name.

Pandit Shankar was born on 1920 in Benaras, present day Varanasi.

He gained popularity after composing music in Satyajit Ray's Apu Trilogy.

The maestro is also known for his friendship with Beatles' George Harrison, which eventually gave birth to raga rock genre of music.
