Gold box office collection: Akshay Kumar starrer film inches towards Rs 100 cr club

Mumbai, Aug 27 (IBNS): Despite a decline in its earnings in the last few days, actor Akshay Kumar starrer Hindi film Gold is nearing Rs 100 crore mark at the Indian box office.

After earning Rs. 89.30 crore in the first weekend, Gold could collect just Rs. 9.70 crore in the following seven days.

Film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#Gold biz at a glance...Week 1: ₹ 89.30 cr [prolonged Week 1; 9 days; released on Wed] Weekend 2: ₹ 9.70 cr Total: ₹ 99 cr India biz."

Gold, which tells the story of the Indian hockey team's first Olympic gold medal after independence, released on Aug 15.

The film released on the occasion of the country's 72nd Independence Day.

Apart from Akshay, the film stars actress Mouni Roy in one of the lead roles.

Mouni, who made her debut with the Reema Kagti directorial Gold, is a popular face on Indian television.

Actors Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Vineet Kumar Singh and Sunny Kaushal featured in distinct roles in the film.

Dressed in Kurta and dhoti, Akshay was seen playing an alcoholic, Bengali man, named Tapan Das,
