New Delhi, May 10 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated veteran actor Shashi Kapoor after he was presented the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award on Sunday.

Modi tweeted: "It was wonderful seeing the versatile & much admired Shashi Kapoor ji being presented the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Congratulations to him."

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley presented the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award to legendary actor-filmmaker Shashi Kapoor in Mumbai.

The 77-year old actor is the third member in his family to receive the honour after his father Prithviraj Kapoor and elder brother Raj Kapoor.

Shashi Kapoor could not to attend the award ceremony on May 3 in Delhi due to his ill-health.

He was, therefore, handed over the award at a function at Prithvi Theatre in suburban Mumbai on Sunday.

His friends and family members gathered at the theatre for the ceremony.
