Mumbai/IBNS: The much-awaited trailer of Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Ramayana was unveiled by the makers on Thursday, offering audiences a grand first glimpse into one of Indian cinema's most ambitious mythological adaptations.

The trailer was launched at 4:15 am IST, coinciding with Brahma Muhurat, the auspicious pre-dawn period in Hindu tradition that is considered ideal for spiritual and sacred beginnings.

Star-studded cast and makers

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced primarily by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, and Yash as Ravana.

Tiwari, best known for acclaimed films such as Dangal and Chhichhore, has spent several years developing the ambitious adaptation of the Hindu epic.

The film also features Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana, Vivek Oberoi as Vidyutjihva, Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari, Rakul Preet Singh as Shurpanakha and Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi in pivotal roles.

Top 5 moments from the trailer

1. Yash's Ravana reveal steals the show

The trailer saves Ravana's entry for the finale, building suspense through dark visuals and an imposing atmosphere. Yash's fierce look, towering silhouette and commanding screen presence have already become one of the trailer's biggest talking points.

2. Ranbir Kapoor's calm yet powerful Lord Ram

Instead of relying on dialogues, the trailer introduces Lord Ram through his composed demeanour, archery skills and serene expressions, highlighting righteousness and restraint over aggression.

3. Hollywood-level visual effects

From the grandeur of Lanka to expansive battlefields and dazzling celestial weapons, the trailer showcases some of the most ambitious visual effects ever attempted in an Indian mythological film.

4. Epic background score

The background score transitions from devotional chants to a thunderous orchestral crescendo, enhancing the emotional depth and cinematic scale without overpowering the visuals.

5. The grand scale of the Ram-Ravana war

Massive armies, Vanara warriors, divine astras and sweeping aerial battle sequences offer a glimpse of what promises to be one of the biggest war spectacles ever mounted in Indian cinema.

Release Timeline

The first instalment of Ramayana is slated for a Diwali 2026 release, while the second part is expected to hit theatres during the Diwali 2027 festive season.
