Mumbai, Nov 30 (IBNS): Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker on Friday began filming of his Hindi historical movie Panipat.

The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles.

Film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted, "Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon... Ashutosh Gowariker begins filming of historical #Panipat... Produced by Sunita Gowariker and Rohit Shelatkar... 6 Dec 2019 release."

Making a historical film, Gowariker is likely to tell the story of the third battle of Panipat, which was fought in 1761.

The battle was fought in Panipat (now in Haryana), which was 97 km north of Delhi.

In the battle, the Afghans overpowered the Maratha force.

Gowariker had last directed Mohenjo Daro in 2016. Mohenjo Daro starred Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hedge in the main roles.

Some of the notable works in Gowariker's career so far include Laagan, Swades and Jodhaa Akbar.

Panipat is slated to hit the big screens on Dec 6, 2019.
