Mumbai/IBNS: Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Hindi film Gangubai Kathiawadi, which stars actor Alia Bhatt in the lead role, will release on the big screens on Jul 30.

The film marks the first collaboration between the ace filmmaker and Bhatt.

It is produced by Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada under their respective banners Bhansali Productions and Pen India Limited.

The movie is based on a chapter of Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens of Mumbai about Gangubai Kathiawadi, a brothel owner and matriarch.

Bhatt, one of the leading contemporary Bollywood actors, was last seen in Sadak 2, which premiered on an Over-the-top (OTT) platform amid Covid-19 last year.
